Where does the EU source these imports?
China and Türkiye together supplied 66.2% of combined H1 2026 import value. Switzerland overtook Norway for third place. Rankings identify statistical partner countries and territories.

Supplier concentration increased
China’s share rose from 28.59% to 37.57%. Türkiye remained second with 28.59% in H1 2026.
Top 3 concentration increased from 69.34% to 77.26%; Top 5 rose from 86.63% to 90.02%. These are shares of official extra-EU imports under the selected codes.
What do the selected CN8 codes cover?
Extra-EU imports under CN8 85372091 and 85372099: boards, panels, consoles, desks, cabinets and other bases equipped with two or more apparatus of heading 8535 or 8536 for electric control or electricity distribution, for voltages exceeding 1,000 V. The two mutually exclusive voltage classes are materially unchanged between the periods and may be aggregated. CN8 85372091 covers >1,000 V to 72.5 kV; 85372099 covers >72.5 kV.
Scope limitation: These selected imports do not measure the entire EU switchgear market, all high-voltage switchgear, complete substations, all grid equipment, EU production, consumption, installed capacity or total market size. CN8 does not identify renewable-energy, utility-grid, industrial or other final application. Individual switching apparatus classified elsewhere and unequipped boards/parts under 8538 are outside scope. High-Voltage follows the >1,000 V CN threshold; engineering terminology may call part of 85372091 medium voltage. EUR/kg ratios are not price indices.
H1 2025 vs H1 2026: two different voltage-class trends
Combined value increased from €400,695,392 to €499,224,264 (+24.59%). Net mass increased from 19,652,949 kg to 27,446,014 kg (+39.65%). CN8 85372091 rose from €272,650,775 to €375,498,018 (+37.72%); 85372099 fell from €128,044,617 to €123,726,246 (-3.37%). Combined growth was not uniform across both classes.
Methodology & source
Eurostat Comext DS-045409; EU27_2020; IMPORT; January-June 2025 and 2026. Official totals use EXT_EU27_2020. Shares and concentration use official extra-EU value. Identified suppliers are partner countries/territories, not companies. EU27 members, WORLD, aggregates, stores/provisions, unspecified/confidential and pseudo partners are excluded. XS (Serbia) and XK (Kosovo) are identified statistical partners. Net mass equals QUANTITY_IN_100KG multiplied by 100. Missing observations are not verified zeros; reported sums and observation counts preserve coverage. Residuals equal official totals minus identified supplier totals and are never redistributed.
2026 figures currently cover January through June. Trade statistics may be revised by Eurostat after initial publication. No total-market size is inferred.
